Coal Bed Methane

Methane from coal is becoming an important source for our nations energy needs. Methane concentrations in coal have been building for millions of years. This methane can be released by drilling wells into the coal seams. Flow to the wells is aided by horizontal drilling and fracturing of the formation Pumping off water relieves the formation pressure, releasing the absorbed methane. Coal bed methane projects are increasing and will soon be common across the entire Illinois Basin.

Coal Mine Methane

As mines are abandoned and entrances and mine vent shafts are filled in, large voids are left under ground. The mine then acts as a large horizontal well with great surface areas that allow methane to flow into from surrounding coal deposits. Wells drilled into the mine can produce valuable quantities of methane.

Natural Gas Wells

Mature natural gas fields are still producing in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. Newer fields are being developed in shale common through out regions of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.

Enhanced Oil Recovery

Mature oil producing fields are scattered across the three states of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Enhanced oil recovery can occur by lowering the pressure in the annulus of the well by the use of compressors. Produced natural gas can then be sold increasing profitability of the field.

Pipeline

Pipeline maintenance and new construction may require the closing off of sections of pipelines. The drawdown compressor will remove the natural gas in the closed section of pipeline and move the gas around the closed valve eliminating flaring or venting to atmosphere the valuable natural gas. Compressors for pressurizing pipelines before they are open can also be leased or purchased.

CNG Fueling Equipment

Reducing our country's dependence on foreign sources of oil is vital to the long term growth and security of our country. Alternative fueled vehicles offer great promise in obtaining this goal. Lower pollution levels and reducing the operating cost of vehicles is another major benefit of using compressed natural gas for fueling our transportation needs.
